The humanities department nurtures an enthusiasm and real zest for learning in your children. They will question how, why and where we have arrived at our particular space in time, morally, socially and culturally.
Colourful and interesting topics are taught; coursework is introduced and cross-curricular links are fostered.
History
Your child will learn a variety of historical skills to impart a common body of knowledge, an understanding of the past and a thirst to find out more. They will explore our own historical site from the roof to the cellars. Your children will know how to relate their learning to the present and use sources we find around us to discover more about those who lived before and the influence their actions have on all our present day lives.
Geography
Rookesbury children really enjoy finding out about the world around them. They develop a sense of location, a knowledge of different places and respect for differing cultures whilst learning about local and global issues.
Religious Education
The religious text followed is the Bible and the morals of the stories of the Old and New Testaments are related to modern day life. Children also gain a basic understanding of the world’s other leading religions with emphasis on tolerance and mutual respect. Celebration assemblies provide opportunities for these lessons to be shared with the rest of the school. Your children will embrace these religions and enjoy using cookery and art as a way of extending their understanding of how other people live and what is important to them.
