GREEN DAY – WALK TO SCHOOL
TUESDAY 23rd JUNE 2009
Green Day is a one day event for schools about climate change, sustainability and the environment. It is a fun and flexible way to integrate these themes into the classroom and whole school activities. Throughout the day the children will be engaged in activities from a Waste Audit, Climate Change, Calculating Energy, Landscaping and a Rubbish Collage!
We are encouraging all children to WALK to school. In order for us to remain safe we have gained permission from the Rookesbury Park Caravan Park to drop off children there, and staff will walk your children in groups to school from the Park. It is a 20 minute walk.
Directions are as follows:
From the Southwick Road turn up 100 Hundred Acre Road. Continue for approximately half a mile. Turn left at the Caravan Park next to the West Walk Picnic area. Members of staff will be stationed there. Continue for about 500 yards where more staff will be waiting.
Please drop off your child. There is a safe area for children behind a gate and we will then walk your children in groups to school. On Monday afternoon, we will ask all children to leave Book Bags and water bottles at school.
We will assume your child will be brought to the Caravan Park, in order to walk to school, unless you contact Diana in the office. Naturally, those of you who live in Wickham may choose to walk to school via the drive. There is no pressure to have to walk to school; it is only for those who choose to. The school mini bus will run as usual.
All children are encouraged to wear something green and bring in £1. This will help us to maintain our lovely environment, with a sustained planting programme and continued recycling projects.
Lunch will also be on the ‘Green Theme’.
Timings: Drop off from 8.15am – 8.30am at the Caravan Park.
Some staff will remain at school in order to receive children who arrive by car. We hope you will support us in this project, perhaps by sharing a car journey, if you are unable to walk to school!
